Bettina Perut
was born in Rome, Italy, in 1970. She studied Journalism
at Universidad Gabriela Mistral, Santiago de Chile. Between 1996-1997
she worked as Assistant Director of the documentary series Visiones,
aired by Universidad Católica de Chile Televisión.
Iván Osnovikoff was born in Puerto Montt,
Chile, in 1966. He studied Anthropology at Universidad Austral de
Chile, Valdivia. Between 1996-1998 he worked as Assistant Screenwriter
for the Chilean film director Silvio Caiozzi.
Between 1997-2000 Bettina Perut and Iván Osnovikoff Co-Directed
“Chi-chi-chi
Le-le-le Martín Vargas of Chile”, observational
documentary film about the come back of a fallen box idol and his
impact in Chilean society. First Prize at Festival Internacional
de Cine de Valparaíso (2001), Best Research Award and Best
Subject Development Award at Festival Internacional de Cine Documental
de Santiago de Chile (2000).
Between 2000 and 2002 Perut and Osnovikoff produced and directed
“A Man Aside”,
a deep and raw metaphor on human condition that depicts the decline
of Ricardo Liaño and his obsession to become a millionaire
in his eighties. Coral Award for Best Experimental Documentary at
La Habana Film Festival (2002), Best Documentary Award at Barcelona
International Documentary Festival (2003), 2002 Altazor National
Art Awards for Best Direction and Creative Contribution in film
production, Silver Wolf Competition at IDFA (2002).
During 2003 and 2004, Perut and Osnovikoff directed and produced
"Clever Monkey Pinochet Versus La Moneda’s Pigs",
a provocative documentary experimentation on the 1973 Chilean military
coup featuring Chilean child and youth reenacting historical facts.
Released theatrically in Chile in September 2004, the film was nominated
for Best Chilean Documentary 2004 by the Altazor National Art Awards.
In 2004, Perut and Osnovikoff began the making of “Welcome
to New York”, an exercise of inverted ethnography
in which the Chilean directors show their irreverent and sarcastic
vision of the "Capital of the World”. Released in New
York in March 2006, the film was officially selected at Karlovy
Vary IFF (2006), among other international festivals.
Perut and Osnovikoff are by now producing a new film: “News”.
